Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (oSTEM) - 2019 to 2023
Animal Protection Society of Durham (APS) - 2019 to 2020
Villanova Engineering Service Learning (formerly Engineers Without Borders) - Fall 2013 to Spring 2017
I led the student-chapter of EWB as the co-president in 2016-2017, educating students on the ongoing projects in several countries, Central America, Africa, and Asia.
Specifically with Panama, I worked on the decade-old project of expanding and repairing a network of gravity-fed water systems in rural Panama. I went to Panama twice to perform surveys of soil and water quality in the field on service break trips, and I helped calculate the data for the construction projects when at campus. I also lead the project groups for the Fall 2016 trip to Panama, coordinating the travel and in-country operations with our site contact.
My own contributions to the project include a GPS/telemetry mapping of the entire Cañasas water network and surveying/design work for the new Pigandi water network. I also designed and constructed a manual-powered hand-crank rice dehusker for use in homes.
Volunteer for Japan-American Society - Fall 2014 to Spring 2018
The 日米協会 (Japan America Society of Philadelphia Contest) is an annually competition for high school students hosted at Villanova University. While I studied Japanese at Villanova, I helped with quizzing the student teams, keeping time for each question and recording the score. I also helped with the set up and take down of the event and directing students and their parents where to go.
I also was a proctor for the Japanese Learning Proficiency Test (JLPT), held annually to accredit non-Japanese people in their level of skill at the Japanese language.
Habitat for Humanity - Fall 2011 to Spring 2015
Worked through school organizations, such as Key Club in the past, or currently the Villanova chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Helped to organize stock at the various ReStores or construct homes for families on build trips.
